GREGORY K WESTBY When journalists interview artists, they always ask, "what is art to you?" I hope one day I will get to answer this to an actual journalist, but for now, you can be my personal journalist. So, here's my answer: "Art is the water to the animal that is culture." Without art, culture would not survive time. If pieces like Stonehenge, the great Pyramids of Giza, the Cave art in France, and the Mayan pyramids, we may never have known these civilizations existed. Human culture has entered an extremely complex era. I consider myself part of the current era of art and hope, through higher education, to become a tributary that our culture can drink from. I want to continuously provide our culture with new flavors as well as creating works that characterize society in all it's complexity and versatiliy, perpetuating our existence past the lifetime of the human race.
